ABOUT KUMAMOTO PREFECTURE

© Kumamoto Prefectural Office

Kumamoto Prefecture is located at the central of Kyushu, South-west Japan. It is a land that is blessed by nature and where Japan's traditions since ancient time have been kept alive. The prefecture is famous for “Mount Aso,” where one of the world’s largest calderas lies, and the beautiful sea around "Amakusa"—a group of 120 islands. It is also one of Japan's most popular spots for hot-springs, blessed from Aso’s volcano.

With its mineral water and abundant nature, Kumamoto possesses a large variety of ingredients as well. From the “mountains' blessings” – such as rice, citrus fruits, and Japanese Brown beef – to the “sea's blessings” – such as Japanese tiger prawns, Japanese cutlass fishes, and sea breams, the ingredients found at this place carry distinctive flavors.
