Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan in Singapore and Singapore Judo Federation (SJF) are pleased to present the Development & Current Landscape of Judo in Singapore: Our History, Present & Future, a lecture and demonstration on Judo by A/Prof Fabian Lim and Mr Muhammad Azfar Ali. They will be sharing more insights about the Japanese martial arts and its development in Singapore over the years. Moreover, there will be a brief demonstration of Kata, meaning "form", which forms the fundamental and core techniques of Judo with Mr Yeo Chin Seng, President of SJF.

A/Prof Fabian Lim Chin Leong

Associate Professor of Exercise Physiology, LKC SoM, NTU

A/Prof Fabian Lim loves the sport of Judo and has participated in numerous national competitions. He was a member of the Singapore Combined School Team that competed in Bangkok in 1982. He was also a member of the Singapore Judo Federation between 1994 and 1997, and was instrumental in setting up the Jujitsu Association of Singapore in 2000. A/Prof Fabian Lim has been lecturing at the SSC's National Coaching Accreditation Programme since 1991 and he taught at the Fitness Instructor Course from 1995-1999.

Mr Yeo Chin Seng
President, Singapore Judo Federation

Mr Yeo Chin Seng first started playing Judo at the YMCA Judo Society in 1965. He participated in many local tournaments in the Light Weight category and won numerous championships from 1972 to 2005. He was selected by the Singapore Judo Federation to represent Singapore at the 13th South East Asia Games in Bangkok, Thailand and won a Bronze Medal. In the 1991, he was the National Coach for the Women's team at the South East Asia Games in Manila, Philippines. Mr Yeo is currently the President of the federation since 2015.

Mr Muhammad Azfar Ali
High Performance Manager, Singapore Judo Federation
Assistant Head Coach, Singapore Judo Club

Mr Muhammad Azfar Ali has received National Coaching Accreditation in Judo, as well as 2nd Dan from the Singapore Judo Federation. This has led him to become an Assistant Head Coach at the Singapore Judo Club since 2015, as well as a High Performance Manager at the Singapore Judo Federation since 2016. He manages the Singapore Judo National Team for their training and when they participate in regional and international competitions, such as the Bali Open International Judo Championship and the Thailand International Judo North Bangkok University Championship.
