Dr. Iskandar Jalil’s trove of travel tales and memories takes a sweeping trans-global route, winding through rivers, crossing continents and deserts and scaling mountains throughout the world. This exhibition will bring us on a journey back to the master potter’s art development through the different philosophies, approaches, different clays and techniques he has encountered whilst travelling. |
His recollections are also profoundly tied to his sense of ‘home’ and articulations of self-identity. Selected texts from Dr. Iskandar’s journals will be incorporated in the exhibition as well, giving glimpses of his unique humour, poetics, and first-hand accounts of his travel journeys. It also serves as a poignant reminder to the master potter that whilst the pandemic has isolated many, the reopening of borders has him looking outward again and creating more new travel memories.
