ABOUT THE IKEBANA STYLE OF IKENOBO |
IKENOBO is often regarded as the origin of ikebana founded in 1462 in Kyoto at the Rokkakudo Temple, a Buddhist temple where the Ikenobo headmaster is the head priest. It started as a floral offering ritual to Buddha but has now become one of the traditional art forms in Japan. Sen’ei Ikenobo is the current and 45th generation headmaster of Ikenobo.
The Ikenobo Headquarters found within the Rokkakudo Temple grounds serves as a learning centre for Ikenobo students not only from Japan, but also from many Ikenobo Chapters around the world, including Singapore. It encourages the learning of both traditional as well as the modern forms in response to an ever-changing world where traditional standards of aesthetics are being challenged.
