Japan Creative Centre (JCC) and Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 are pleased to showcase an Ikebana exhibition to celebrate the season of autumn. With the theme of Autumn Splendour, it will give expressions to the beauty of autumn, manifested through Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arrangement.
The exhibition will showcase an emphasis of the use of rich, earthy colours of autumn, rooted in red, orange, yellow, brown, and even gold. It will set a contemplative mood – an attempt to prompt deep reflection and the admiration of nature. Join us for the Opening and Live Demonstration on 4 November, as well as an Ikebana workshop focusing on The Three Basic Structural Lines in Sogetsu Ikebana on the last day.

Ikebana Workshop: The Three Basic Structural Lines in Sogetsu Ikebana
7 November 2026 |
|
Japan Creative Centre (JCC) |
|
Join us at JCC for an Ikebana workshop by Mrs Esther Law from the Sogetsu School. The workshop presents moribana (Ikebana arrangement in a flower basin) in its timeless beauty using autumn colours. Arranged in a shallow suiban (Japanese water basin) with a kenzan (flower frog), it follows the harmony of the basic structure of the three main lines – shin, soe and hikae, while embracing the rich texture and hues of the season with branches in autumn tones. It is a tribute to the maturity, warmth, and elegance of nature.

Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, is a subtle, sensitive and sophisticated art form having a recorded history from many centuries. It is steeped in the philosophy of developing proximity with nature. Ikebana is a form of art similar to painting and sculpture. The artist expresses his/her creativity by using the medium of natural floral materials and containers. The fundamentals of Ikebana are as relevant today as they were centuries ago, but the art form has evolved to suit the modern society.

The Chapter members come from various schools of Ikebana such as Ikenobo, Sogetsu, Ohara, Ichiyo, Ryusei-ha, Souami and Kozan. Monthly events organised by the Chapter offer the members and Ikebana lovers a platform for interaction and learning.
