Did you know that sushi has undergone multiple transformations to adapt to the nature, climate, and lifestyle of Japan, with nigirizushi, a small mound of rice topped with raw fish or other ingredients, originating only about 200 years ago in Edo? And those transformation came from the common people, baking for days to create tasty dishes that is easy to make.
As sushi has now spread outside Japan's borders, making it really popular and enjoyed around the globe, although it has become a familiar food, but many people have only known just one aspect of sushi. This exhibition aims to provide an in-depth visual guide to explore various fascinating aspects of it, and the history and culture of Japan that contributed to the evolution of sushi.
The exhibition explores the appeal of sushi through a multifaceted perspective that includes ukiyo-e paintings and woodblock prints, scale figures of seafood, food samples, videos, installations, and a replica of a Japanese sushi restaurant.
