Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan in Singapore, and Chado Urasenke Tankokai Singapore Association are pleased to present an exhibition entitled 'Fabrics in Cha-no-yu ~Japan and Asia~'. There are many specific utensils involved in the Japanese Way of Tea (Chado / Cha-no-yu), such as the tea bowl or whisk. However, one aspect which is often overlooked are the beautiful fabrics.

Besides the exhibition, there will also be a talk and tea ceremony demonstration. Do not miss this exclusive and unique opportunity to experience another side of Japanese tea ceremony!

About the Exhibition

In the 400-year history of Chado, a wide variety of items used for Cha-no-yu were imported from China, Korea and South Asia to Japan. Fabrics were one of these items. Some of these utensils and fabrics later became national treasures and famed fabrics in Japan.

This exhibition introduces the history and beauty of dyeing and weaving art in Cha-no-yu.
