Invitation to the World of Budo:
Lecture & Close-Up 12 Budo Demonstrations

28 November 2025

Japan Creative Centre (JCC)

Join us at JCC for a lecture and a close-up demonstration of 12 different types of Budō or martial arts, co-organised with the Nippon Budōkan.

Budō is a form of Japanese physical culture that has its origins in the ancient tradition of bushidō – literally, “the way of the warrior.” They include Judo, Kendo, Kyudo, Sumo, Karatedo, Aikido, Shorinji Kempo, Naginata, Jukendo, Hokushin Itto-Ryu Kenjutsu, Hozoin-ryu Takada-ha Sojutsu and Okinawa Goju-Ryu Bujutsu. Practitioners of Budō develop technical martial skills while striving to unify of mind, technique and body; to develop their character; to enhance their sense of morality; and to cultivate a respectful and courteous demeanour. Thus, Budō serves as a path to self-perfection.

The lecture will be presented by Mr Onda Koji, Kendo Hanshi 8th Dan, Chief Kendo Lecturer in the House of Representatives. In his lecture, he will focus on what he learned from practicing Kendo, along with concepts common to other Budō or martial arts — including the principles that resonate with all Budō and lessons from the samurai spirit.
