Join us at JCC for an enchanting evening filled with the melodious harmonies of Aoi Trio. The trio – consisting of Kyoko Ogawa (violin), Yu Ito (cello), and Kosuke Akimoto (piano) – will be playing piano trio pieces as well as their own respective solos. Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music and let their musical passion sweep you away!

About the performers

Aoi Trio was founded in 2016 by Kyoko Ogawa (violin), Yu Ito (cello), and Kosuke Akimoto (piano), all of whom graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts and studied at the renowned Chamber Music Academy of Suntory Hall (Tokyo) for 2 years.

“Aoi” refers to the initial letters of their individual family names and is also the name of a flower in Japanese language, which is commonly known as ‘hollyhock” in Europe and symbolises “aspiration” or “fruitfulness.”

Aoi Trio made a breath-taking start to their international career when they won the prestigious first prize at the 2018 ARD International Piano Trio Competition – in Munich, Germany. Since then, they have appeared at numerous major concert venues in Japan and Europe. They have also been invited as soloist for triple concertos by many professional orchestras.

They were the selected resident artistes at Kioi Hall (Tokyo) during the 2021-2023 season and have been involved in a 7-year collaboration program with Suntory Hall since 2021. They currently provide coaching sessions for several chamber music masterclasses.

Their four recordings ― “Haydn No. 27 and Schubert No. 2”, “Beethoven No. 1 and Mendelssohn No. 2”, “Martinu No. 1 & Dvorak No. 3” and “Schumann No. 1 & Schubert No. 1” ― have attracted great critical acclaim. They have also received the Aoyama Music Award, Nippon Steel Music Award, Hotel Okura Music Award and Music Pen Club Award.
