The Japan Creative Centre, Embassy of Japan in Singapore and Nibroll (Dance Company) are proud to present Artist Talk "Nibroll" ~ on the Recorded Image ~ by Ms Mikuni Yanaihara, Japan Cultural Envoy for the fiscal year of 2015 in the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan and Mr Keisuke Takahashi a visual artist. Ms Yanaihara recently choreographed the Dance Marathon: OPEN WITH A PUNK SPIRIT! for the SIFA Dance Marathon which was held on 25 August at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.

Nibroll is a dance company based in Tokyo, which is also active in Europe, USA and Asia led by choreographer Ms Mikuni Yanaihara which was established in 1997. Nibroll produces collaborated performances created through various video artists, musicians, and fine art practitioners. The characteristic of their performance is an unconventional framework where the output can be a dance show, concert, play, movie, or an art exhibition. Nibroll entrusts all the decision-making to its audience.

Their ultimate aim is to explore the possibilities of visual and physical expression through this framework and having active communication with audience through various genres.

Japan Creative Centre will be hosting this Artist Talk this September. Don't miss this rare opportiunity of meeting Ms Mikuni Yanaihara and Mr Keisuke Takahashi at this one day special event.

Mikuni Yanaihara
Ms. Mikuni Yanaihara

Ms Yanaihara is the director and choreographer of Nibroll. She's well known for her unique style of choreography based on everyday movements and her critical expression of contemporary society. Ms Yanaihara has performed in various parts of Japan and International festivals like Oregon Dance Festival, San Francisco’s BUTO Festival and Laokoon Summer Festival in Hamburg, Germany

She has worked in New York as a playwright and director, she has won the Kishida Kunio Drama Award in 2012. Yanaihara also creates visual artwork under the name of Nibroll and has participated in exhibitions at festivals and venues such as the Shanghai Biennale, OHARA MUSEUM of ART & the MIRI Art Museum in Japan.

She worked as a choreographer for an animated film as well. Ms Yanaihara has created works by crossing over between dance, theatres and visual arts. Currently she's appointed as the Japan Cultural Envoy for the fiscal year 2015.



Keisuke Takahashi
Mr. Keisuke Takahashi

Mr Takahashi is a visual artist who has created many visual installations in various spaces such as museums, galleries, theatres and public spaces.He has created performance pieces and intends to pursue the relationship between body and image.

Mr Takahashi has held his solo exhibitions in Milan, Italy, Taipei, Taiwan, Japan, SENDAI Mediatheque, BankArt1929, OHARA MUSEUM of ART and others. He has done joint international exhibitions such as SHANGHAI Biennial, ECHIGO-TSUMARI Triennial and others.

His works have been presented in arts festivals throughout Japan and the world. He received the MAM Contemporary Award from Mori Art Museum in 2004 as well as the Committee Recommendation Award from Japan Media Arts Festival in 2006. Mr Takahashi has created many performance works as a visual director for "Nibroll" the dance company.
