~ Savour the finest tastes of Yamanashi, Japan ~
The Japan Creative Centre, Embassy of Japan in Singapore and Yamanashi Prefecture are proud to present YamanaSHIOK! promotional event featuring the hidden gems of Yamanashi; a prefecture mainly known as the home of Mt. Fuji, Japan’s iconic landmark. Among numerous gems found in Yamanashi, this event focuses on wine and fruits as well as its bountiful nature that gives birth to those distinctive local products.
Winemaking in Japan started about 140 years ago, in Yamanashi. As the birth place of winemaking in Japan, Yamanashi has always been the forerunner of Japanese Oenology, having honed the finest winemaking technique by taking full advantage of the unique and abundant nature of the region. Among the wines produced in Yamanashi, Koshu Wine is arguably the most characteristic as it is made from an indigenous white wine grape variety called “Koshu” and named with reference to the old name of Yamanashi.
Koshu Wine is now gaining recognition among international wine connoisseurs. Not only is the variety registered as an international unique variety by Organisation internationale de la vigne et du vin (OIV) or International Organization of Vine and Wine, but it is also winning various prestigious wine awards all over the world.
Koshu Wine, with its delicate and elegant taste, is often introduced as the perfect pairing with sophisticated Japanese Cuisine. In addition, the wine goes very well with Chinese Cuisine and as some say that tasting is believing, conceived this event to offer you the opportunity to appreciate a remarkable marriage between Koshu Wine and Chinese Cuisine.
Yamanashi is proud of its agricultural products, especially in its fruits such as peaches and grapes. Located in a basin-shaped valley area and surrounded by some of the highest mountains in Japan, Yamanashi is blessed with favourable natural conditions to grow fruits. Low precipitations, extreme daily temperature variations, and longest annual sun exposure in Japan, are among the key factors that enable Yamanashi to be among the best producer of excellent fruits and vegetables. Today, besides to tasting the crisp and juicy fresh fruits, various desserts made with the fruits will be served to offer you a brand new gourmet experience.
In this event, three female professionals will unveil the hidden gems of Yamanashi. Ms. Yuka Ishida, Senior Staff at Yamanashi Prefectural Government will first make a brief presentation of Yamanashi and the blessings of nature. Ms. Ayana Misawa, Winemaker at Grace Winery, will then proceed with an introduction and tasting session of Koshu Wine. Finally, Ms. Aya Kakisawa, Owner and Chief of Patisserie Potager, will introduce you to Yamanashi fruits. Check out this exclusive event and discover the charms of Yamanashi - the bright and brilliant gem of Japan!
