The Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan in Singapore and Lighting Planner Associates (LPA) are proud to present a Talk entitled "Scenery at Nights: Changes in Scenery through the Eyes of Lighting Designers" by Principal Mr Kaoru Mende and Director Ms Reiko Kasai.
LPA is a specialised lighting association which follows a four step framework like Planning & Design, Consultation, Research & Development and Education & Awareness to provide lighting service to various types of buildings ranging from commercial, residential and recreational.
Their policy is "The most important aspect of lighting design is learning from natural light, Through the designing for superior lighting environments, LPA strives to create comfortable and yet inspiring environments of daily life". LPA handles wide range of projects from residential, hotel, commercial, public spaces, landscape to full scape urban lighting projects.Notable projects include Lighting Masterplan for Singapore’s City Centre, Gardens by the Bay at Marina South, The National Gallery Singapore, Victoria Theatre, Tanjong Pagar Centre, Jewel Changi Airport, ION Orchard, Ocean Financial Centre, CapitaGreen and d’Leedon and so on.
JCC will be hosting this Talk where by Ms Kasai will share about sceneries and its changes through lighting in Singapore and Mr Mende will engage in the direct conversation with the audience. This will be followed by a verbal interaction and a Q & A session towards the end. Don't miss this special talk and exhibition here at JCC!

Mr Kaoru Mende
|
Mr Mende was born in Tokyo in 1950, earned his bachelors and masters degree from Tokyo University of Art in the field of industrial and environmental design. In 1990, he founded Lighting Planners Associates (LPA) Pte (S) Ltd . The scope of his design and planning activities ranges widely from residential and architectural lighting design to urban and environmental lighting.
Mr Mende is also the acting chief of the “Lighting Detectives”, a citizens’ group that specializes in the study of the culture of lighting. He has been involved in superb projects such as Tokyo International, Forum, JR Kyoto Station, Sendai Mediatheque, Roppongi Hills, Kyoto State Guest House, Chino Cultural Complex National Museum of Singapore, Singapore City Center Lighting Master Plan, Alila Villas Uluwatu, Gardens by the Bay and Façade Lighting for Tokyo Station.
The Awards which Mr Mende has received includes the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) Award of Distinction, International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Radiance Award, Japan Culture Design Award, Mainichi Design Award, President’s Design Award in Singapore and others.
Currently Mr Mende is a visiting professor at Musashino Art University and a part-time lecturer at Tokyo University, Tokyo University of Art, and other institutions. He's also a member of the following associations, Architectural Institute of Japan (IAIJ), Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES), International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), and Japan Design Committee (JDC).
Mr Mende has published many books on Lighting such as "Transnational Lighting Detectives". |

Ms Reiko Kasai
|
Reiko Kasai is the director at Lighting Planners Associates (LPA) Pte (S) Ltd. Joined LPA in Tokyo in 1995 and moved to Singapore at the end of 2000 to set up the office, she has been living here since 2000.
She is also an active contributor to numerous publications in Japan on architecture/design and lifestyle in Singapore and the region.
