JCC CINEMA MOVIE SCREENING & SHARING SESSION

The Japan Creative Centre invites you to join us at our JCC film screening and creative session. As part of JCC's creative program, we will be screening exciting Japanese movies at the end of every month. The screening will then be followed by an informative sharing session where guest speakers will share their thoughts and insights on all things Japanese!
For our 11th session, we will be screening "Runway Beat", a movie based on the cellphone novel by Maha Harada and directed by Kentaro Otani. Released in 2011, the film revolves around the theme of fashion designing and tells the story of five teenagers who organized a fashion show.
The screening will be followed by a sharing session by the top three winners of the Sustainable Fashion Design Competition 2011 organized by Japan Creative Centre. They will share their insights and experience as rising Singaporean Fashion Designers.

Runway Beat is a 2011 film based on a popular Japanese mobile novel by Maha Harada. Starring actor Koji Seto and actresses Nanami Sakuraba and Mirei Kiritani, Runway Beat is a story about five teenagers’ attempt at organizing a fashion show. Biito Mizorogi is a transfer student who lost his mother at a tender age and has a troubled relationship with his father. Biito hated his father for abandoning his family for his fashion career, and vowed to become an even more distinguished fashion designer. Together with his friends Mei, Anna, Wanda and Miki, Biito attempts to stage a fashion show for the school’s annual festival. However, with his childhood friend suffering from a serious infection and their event venue booked by others, Biito and his friends have to try means and ways to overcome these challenges and make the fashion show a success.
About the Speakers

Ms Charlene Hoon and Ms Zhang Qian, final year students at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and Ms Yeo Siew Fong, also a final year student at Lasalle College of the Arts, were the top three winners of the Sustainable Fashion Design Competition 2011 organized by Japan Creative Centre. They were awarded with a trip to Japan and had the exclusive opportunity to have a student exchange programme at the prestigious and renown Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, Japan, of which its alumni includes international designers like Kenzo Takada and Tsumori Chisato. At present they are preparing for the Graduation Fashion Show 2012 at their respective institutions.They will share their experiences during this trip, as well as the preparation for their Graduation Fashion Show and their thoughts of how theirs compares with the movie.
