FREE ADMISSION!
The Japan Creative Centre invites you to join us at our JCC film screening and creative session. As part of JCC's creative program, we will be screening exciting Japanese movies at the end of every month. The screening will then be followed by an informative sharing session where guest speakers will share their thoughts and insights on all things Japan!
For our eighth session, we will be screening "252 Signal of Life", the 2008 diasaster movie told from both sides of the rescue operation in the aftermath of a mega earthquake and typhoon. The screening will be followed by a sharing session by Mr Hassan Ahmad, Chief Executive of Mercy Relief, who will share insights about the operations of Mercy Relief. He will speak on the challenges faced in disaster relief, in particular the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake which saw Mercy Relief as one of the first volunteer organizations in Singapore to send aid directly to the affected areas.
This month's JCC Cinema ties in with the anniversary of the Tohoku Earthquake in March, where viewers can draw parallels between the survivors in the movie and in the Tohoku earthquake for their inspiring strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
Synopsis of Film
“252… 252...” “We have survivors!” Among a group of survivors trapped underground in the biggest typhoon that struck Tokyo a few weeks after a devastating earthquake are Yuji (Hideaki Ito) and his deaf daughter Shiori (Ayane Omori). With his past training as a Hyper Rescue unit member, Yuji sends the “252” rescuer signal out as a desperate call for help from his team mates. However, with only 18 minutes before the storm returns, the fate of the survivors remains uncertain as the Hyper Rescue unit races against time to bring everyone back in time.
