ZEN GARDENS
Lecture & Garden Visit with Prof. Shunmyo Masuno

In Japan, there are words such as WABI, SABI and YUGEN which expresses the surrounding of an atmosphere. The creation of Japanese gardens begins with the design of the atmosphere. “Borrowed landscapes” such as the interior design of the building and the architecture of the surrounding area create a subtle union of distant aspects of nature with the garden. The atmosphere created is an expression of the designer’s ability to be in harmony with nature.

In this lecture, Zen priest and internationally-renowned garden designer Prof. Masuno will speak about the culture, history and Zen philosophy behind the creation of Japanese gardens and walk us through his latest garden creation in Singapore at the Nassim Park Residences.
