Director's Message

With Ms Rie fu and her painting titled “Japan Creative Centre, 18 August 2026,” which she created during the opening ceremony of her exhibition at JCC.
Dear Friends of JCC,

Konnichiwa!

August was filled with opportunities to pause and reflect on how traditions have evolved, how they appear in our daily lives today, and what they inspire for the future. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend talks on diverse subjects, including children’s picture books, the iconic Kimono and Yukata, as well as Japanese film.

We were also delighted to welcome back familiar faces. From Japanese singer-songwriter and visual artist Ms Rie fu, whose second exhibition at JCC was inspired by the soundscapes of Singapore and Japan, to the 13th Grand Master of Enshu Sado School Mr Kobori Sojitsu and his students conducting Japanese tea ceremonies in Singapore. It is always a pleasure to support continuous efforts in nurturing mutual cultural understanding.

Likewise we welcomed back iconic film director Mr Eric Khoo for a masterclass alongside producer Ms Tan Fong Cheng. This was a special prelude to our Japanese Film Festival (JFF). They shared valuable memories and insights into filmmaking, especially their experiences shooting in Japan, stories only they could tell. JFF 2026 is fast approaching and opens on 1 October. Please stay tuned for the line-ups!

Last but not least, I’m thrilled to share news of SJ60結 -Musubi- Singapore-Japan Festival 2026. This flagship event is the highlight of this year’s SJ60 celebrations, and will take place on 28 – 29 November at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. Early bird tickets are available until the end of September. Be sure to secure yours and join us for a fun-filled weekend!

We have more events lined up for the rest of the year, so please follow us on our Facebook and Instagram, as well as the SJ60 Facebook page and Instagram!
