Konnichiwa!
Having been in Singapore for almost 5 months now, many Friends of JCC have been recommending me to try durian here in Singapore. I was curious about its title as the King of Fruits, and as to why people either love it or hate it. I was able to try durian recently, and although I was unaccustomed to its taste, I liked it very much! Its flavour gave me a much-needed boost at the end of a long work week, and I do think that I will grow to love it more. I look forward to receiving more food and drink recommendations during my stay here.
While we are still unable to hold full-scale events at our premises, it has been fun sharing Japan-related news and articles here and on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Aside from Japanese culture, events, and food, we hope that our posts can help foster a deeper understanding between Japanese and Singaporeans. Through our new series of known as “Kizuna Stories,” we will highlight stories of people and events that have helped to contribute to the longstanding friendship and cooperation between our two countries. Do look out for these posts coming soon on Facebook!
As previously mentioned, we have also been working to revamp our e-library to create a more holistic experience for visitors to JCC. In addition to the books we have, we are preparing a special corner dedicated to interesting and unique information about various prefectures in Japan! Little-known facts about the region’s geography and specialties, famous stars’ hometowns, and words in local dialects are just a few of the things we hope will help supplement our visitors’ understanding of Japan. Preparation is underway, so do visit us to check out this new space once we open our premises to visitors again!
For those who cannot wait till JCC’s premises open, the featured prefectural information will be out during this month on our Facebook page! Glimpses of our e-library project, as well as updates about interesting happenings in Japan will be posted, so do stay tuned to keep up with us! Remember to also follow the Embassy of Japan in Singapore on Facebook, as well as JCC’s Instagram page to stay connected with us. In the meantime, do practice safe distancing and good hygiene habits, and we look forward to welcoming all our Friends of JCC back for events soon!
