On 28 September, guests to JCC were brought on a journey to get to know about the wonderful charms of Kochi Prefecture. Through a spectacular presentation on the sights and activities of Kochi Prefecture, vibrant Yosakoi performances and delightful tastings of Yuzu treats and drinks, guests became quickly acquainted with the prefecture located on the southern side of Shikoku, spreading east and west to embrace the Pacific Ocean.

Dancers from the Singapore Yosakoi Seiran Matoi welcomed audience members with an exciting Yosakoi performance, showcasing energetic dance moves mixed in tradition and innovation. Their performance also featured the unique Naruko clappers that produce a rhythmic snap. The audience was treated to a mini Yosakoi workshop, where they were taught a simple Yosakoi dance with the Naruko.

Kochi Prefecture is the largest producer of Yuzu in Japan. The guests were introduced to the versatile citrus fruit, which is a major staple of Kochi’s cuisine used in cooking, beverages and even transformed into a variety of condiments. They even learned about the village of Umaji, a little mountain village of 800 people but a powerhouse of the yuzu agriculture industry. Samples of yuzu-flavoured condiments, sauces, sake and juice were prepared for audience members to try out and enjoy the refreshing taste of yuzu.

It was an insightful and exciting event and at the end of the day, everyone became a part of the Kochi-ke (Kochi family).
