Dear Friends of JCC,
Konnichiwa!
Finally, we hear the news that the weather in Japan is turning cooler, allowing people to enjoy more activities. In fact, autumn is said to be the season of eating, art, and culture. That was no different at JCC in September, where we offered a colourful palette of activities - from celebrating the awardees of the Scenery of Japan Photo Contest to enjoying the charms of Kumamoto and Kochi Prefectures, and learning about the fruitful experiences of NUS architecture students from their study trip to Japan.
In particular, it was a privilege to welcome Mr Paul Noritaka Tange to JCC’s 15th Anniversary Talk Series. It was insightful to hear from him about the philosophy behind the city design and architecture that both Mr Tange and his late father Mr Kenzo Tange were responsible for, with great focus on those in Singapore and Japan.
We are also back with our annual Japanese Film Festival, with this year’s programme highlighting a seamless blend of tradition and modernity in Japanese cinema. With 31 films across 7 programme segments in 4 different locations, as well as a masterclass and post-screening Q&A sessions with filmmakers, it is a month of cinema fun for everyone. The JFF runs through 20 October. Please check out the lineups if you haven’t done so. I’m sure the variety of our selection will whet your cultural appetite!
