JCC had the pleasure of organising the JET Programme Information Session 2018 for those interested in the JET programme, alongside the JET Alumni Association (JETAA) Singapore and J.CLAIR at the Japan Creative Centre (JCC) on 25th September 2018. The briefing was well-attended by many who came to learn more about the Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) Programme, and the experiences of those who have been on this unique programme. Representatives from The Embassy of Japan and J.CLAIR Singapore also provided useful information about the outline of the JET Program and the application process. The audience learned about the varied experiences that the ex-JET participants had while working as ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) or CIR (Coordinator for International Relations) in vastly different regions of Japan.
|
First, the President of JETAA Ms Cheryl Phua and the Executive Director of J.CLAIR Singapore Mr Kazunori Amari, gave the audience welcome addresses that introduced the history of the JET programme. Next, Ms Chihiro Ono of the Embassy of Japan in Singapore and Mr Eiji Kawamata from J.CLAIR Singapore talked the audience members through the requirements and application process for the programme. Afterwards, JETAA members Ms Pameline Kang and Ms Grace Chew shared about the experiences working as ALTs in elementary, junior high, and high schools, while Ms Carissa Soh spoke about her experience as a CIR for the prefecture of Miyazaki. The audience were able to learn more about the daily life of those on the JET programme, including their job scope, as well as Japanese activities that those on the JET programme are able to participate in outside of work, such as festivals and travelling.
