IKEBANA in Retrospect: Dialogue with Singapore Artists, an exhibition by Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135, was opened on 19th September 2018 at JCC (Japan Creative Centre). The opening was graced by Madam Yuko Shinoda, wife of H.E. Ambassador Kenji Shinoda. Ms Saina Nemoto, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Singapore, presented the welcome speech on behalf of JCC Director Ms Akiko Sugita. Following that, Ms Angela Kek, President of I.l. Singapore Chapter 135, gave her opening speech, and read out a short message from National Gallery curator Ms Lisa Horikawa. Mrs Pamelia Lee, past president of I.I. Singapore Chapter 135, also presented a cheque donation to Ms Angela Kek, in light of the Chapter’s 50th Golden Celebration.

After that, there was a Ryusei-ha style Ikebana demonstration by award-winning Ikebana instructor Ms Momoko Emmott. Ms Momoko Emmott did a total of five demonstrations, including her creation for the exhibition.

IKEBANA in Retrospect: Dialogue with Singapore Artists, features Ikebana works based on interpretations of the artworks that are being exhibited as part of the National Gallery Singapore’s collection, ‘Siapa Nama Kamu? Art in Singapore since the 19th Century’.
