Konnichiwa!

October has arrived with large and eye-catching media coverages of the "SJ50 Matsuri and Friendship Parade", which will be held on 29th and 30th of this month at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, Orchard Road. It will be the biggest event that the Embassy of Japan has largely committed to, in collaboration with the SJ50 Matsuri Steering Committee which is comprised of 7 other Japan-related organisations in Singapore.

We wish for this SJ50 Matsuri to commemorate Japan and Singapore’s 50 years of friendship and collaboration in numerous aspects, ranging from economic to culture. Singapore has always embraced Japanese arts and culture, and we wanted to show our appreciation by bringing this huge street festival to Singapore, so that we can celebrate our past 50 years as well as the next 50 years.

The recent visit by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Mrs Lee to Japan was another symbol of our two nations' solid ties in many ways. Therefore, we hope to celebrate our people-to-people friendship and interconnections with our SJ50 Matsuri and Friendship Parade.

And don't forget that there will be a wonderful pre-event of Kanze Noh Theatre with 3D presentation produced by world-renowned choreographer Mr Amon Miyamoto, on 28th October, Friday, in front of the Asian Civilisation Museum as part of the River Night Festival.

Last but not least, let me introduce our JCC's new Deputy Director, Mr Kazunori Matsunaga. He has been in Singapore for over one and a half years now, so many of you may already know his friendly character. We appreciate your warm welcome to him!

See you soon at the SJ50 Matsuri!
