SSEAYP Day 2015: Official Launch & Talk by Mr Viswa Sadasivan

Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme or otherwise known as SSEAYP, conducted a five-day exhibition and a series of talks from 5th to 10th October at Japan Creative Centre (JCC) from in light of the 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations (SJ50). SSEAYP was created to develop ties, understanding, coexistence between Japan and ASEAN nations, and ultimately to strengthen world peace.

The official launch was held on Monday, 5th October with overwhelming number of guests from both Japanese and Singaporean communities. Mr Hawazi Daipi, former Senior Parliamentary Secretary of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower, who was also a SSEAYP Youth Leader in 1980, graced as the Guest-of-Honour. His Excellency Ambassador Haruhisa Takeuchi and Madam Takeuchi visited the exhibition before the launch as well and interacted with some of the SSEAYP members.

Enlightening the audience was Mr John Vijayan, a former Participating Youth (ex-PY) in 1986, followed by speeches from JCC Director Ms Misako Ito, SSEAYP President Mr Alvin Lee and Guest-of-Honour Mr Hawazi Daipi. The first day of the event also saw audiences engaging in a talk, ‘The Important Role of SSEAYP in an Increasingly Complex Asian Environment’ by Mr Viswa Sadasivan, one of Singapore’s leading media gurus and former Nominated Member of Parliament who is an ex-PY in 1982.
