Introduction to Japanese Language at Pei Chun Public School

The staff of Japan Creative Centre (JCC) set out to Pei Chun Public School to introduce Japanese Language to the primary 3 and 4 students on Friday, 23rd October. As the first primary school in Singapore to have foreign languages as electives, the students who were well versed in both English and Chinese language were eager to learn about the culture of Japan.

The 700 students with curiosity beaming in their eyes were first introduced to the difference between Singapore and Japan in terms of geography. Next was a self-introduction where students repeated after the JCC representatives, as well as counting numbers followed by various greetings in Japanese.

To directly engage with the students, the JCC representatives held a quiz with prizes such as Hiragana tracing worksheets and Pokemon notebooks. With all hands up in sight, the students continued one after another, getting each and every question correctly. To top that, it was amazing to see how many of these students were well versed in Japanese anime, revealing their fondness over Naruto, One Piece, Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan.

Towards the end of the introduction, our Director Ms Misako Ito and the rest of the JCC representatives also shared about the upcoming 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations (SJ50) in 2016 to the school.
