On 5 October, the Japanese Film Festival SG (JFF) in Singapore 2023 was officially opened with the premiere screening of "Mondays: See You 'This' Week!", a comedy film directed by Mr. Takebayashi Ryo at Shaw Theatres Lido.
H.E. Ambassador Hiroshi Ishikawa and Mr. Kenneth Tan, Chairman of the Singapore Film Society, welcomed the guests by giving their opening remarks before the movie began. They emphasised on the tremendous amount of love Singaporeans have for Japanese films and highlighted the family-like friendship between the Embassy of Japan in Singapore and the Singapore Film Society, which has enabled the continuous successful run of JFF in Singapore.
The screening was followed by a lively Q&A session, with Mr. Takebayashi responding to questions in-person with quirky responses and insightful remarks.
Mr. Jasper Sharp, one of the directors for The J-Horror Virus who conducted a masterclass on the J-Horror Phenomenon at JCC on 7 October as part of the programme line-up for JFF 2023, was also in attendance.
