Konnichiwa!
This past October has been an exciting month at JCC! We were happy to have hosted a wide array of events that encompassed a large variety of topics. In the beginning of the month, ikebana enthusiasts were treated to an exhibition by Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135. Near the tail end of the month, those interested in Japanese craft and food culture took part in online talks about Ishikawa gold leafing as well as umeshu.
October also saw the return of the Japanese Film Festival! This year, we were fortunate to be able to have a physical opening ceremony. I was heartened to see our close collaborators and Friends of JCC enjoying themselves—laughing, crying, and rooting for the protagonists—while watching the opening film; it is amazing how, regardless of language, our hearts can be united through the film’s storytelling. For those who have been keeping up with the festival, I hope you came away with a new favourite film!
November will be a relatively quiet month for JCC, but not to worry—we will be preparing for many more activities in the coming months. The end of the year will see the launch of a few exhibitions that will be sure to enlighten our visitors, including one that will provide a rare perspective of art education in Japan and Singapore. We will also be continuing to post more interesting articles about lesser-known regions of Japan, under our Zoom In! series, so do keep an eye out for those!
As always, for more information about our upcoming events at JCC, do follow us on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Do also follow the Embassy of Japan in Singapore’s Facebook page for more interesting news articles about Japan!
