Konnichiwa!
As we enter the season of autumn this year, seasonal foods and fruits such as matsutake mushrooms, chestnuts, apples, and persimmons become available for many to enjoy in Japan. With so much delicacies on offer, it is no wonder that the Japanese have a saying called "autumn appetite"! Here at JCC, we hope to be able to whet your appetite for art and culture with our line-up of vents coming up in November!
October at JCC was a month dedicated to design and innovation. Throughout the month, JCC featured the photographic works of three amazingly talented and innovative female artists. This exhibition was part of the Singapore International Photography Festival, with whom we collaborated with for the first time. JCC also collaborated with Jeweluxe 2018, Southeast Asia's biggest jewellery and timepiece festival, to present a talk by Japanese jewellery designer Tomoko Kodera. Audience members were inspired by her approach to jewellery design, and we hope to be able to present more events that will dazzle the audience just as this one has.
Besides design, JCC has also been active in outreach this past October. JCC took part in JR Café's "Autumn in the Train" event where we presented films at Tanjong Pagar Centre Urban Park as part of JCC Cinema. This was well-received and it gave movie-goers an introduction to Japanese culture as they learned more about travelling in Japan. JCC also participated in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC and Bukit Panjang SMC's One Community Festa at the Singapore Zoo. Our JCC staff and volunteers came together to give a special performance of the Tokyo Gorin Ondo 2020, a song and dance that was created especially for the Olympic Games that will take place in Tokyo in 2020. As the Olympics draws ever nearer, we hope that many Singaporeans will learn the Tokyo Gorin Ondo 2020, and dance with us at future events and get fired up for this great sporting event!
This November, JCC will present a much-anticipated exhibition by master potter Dr. Iskandar Jalil. This exhibition features over 60 works created by Dr. Iskandar himself, a large part of which were created especially for this exhibition. Do not miss the chance to immerse yourself in the beauty of his unconventional ceramic pieces, and see his signature "Iskandar Blue" glaze for yourself at the exhibition!
To keep up with our November programmes, please do follow us on our Facebook page or on our website. Please do also be a Friend of JCC by signing up to our mailing list, through which you can receive the latest updates on our exciting repertoire of event. We look forward to seeing you at our events soon!
