On Saturday, 15th October 2016 as part of our current exhibition, ‘Hanging Gardens’ by Ms Tomomi Nitta, we held a talk event by the artist herself and Mr Sueo Mizuma, Director of Mizuma Gallery.
|
Mr Sueo Mizuma is the director and founder of Mizuma Gallery, the leading gallery in Tokyo, Japan. Continuously introducing young Japanese and Asian artists to the international art scene, he supports artists whose works offer a critique of the contemporary consumer society. Mr Mizuma participates yearly in Art Stage Singapore and Art Basel Hong Kong.
The event saw over 60 guests in attendance for an insightful talk by Guest Speaker Mr Mizuma on ‘Thoughts on Japanese Contemporary Arts’. The guest speaker dwelled into the lives of renowned Japanese contemporary artists, Leonard Foujita, Yoshitomo Nara, Takashi Murakami and Makoto Aida, who shaped the world of Japanese contemporary art.

An intimate Artist Talk session by Ms Nitta was then held, where she explains how she found her inspiration for her series of six paintings and video projection at JCC. Ms Nitta mentions that when she was visiting JCC previously, she was suddenly inspired by the centre’s white walls, which she felt represented a canvas she could paint on. The talks were followed by a Q&A session.
