Konnichiwa!

A big thank you to those who supported and participated in our SJ50 Matsuri and Parade this past weekend!

I heard that our SJ50 Matsuri attracted 110,480 people during the two days of festivities, which completely exceeded our expectations. Initially, we started our Friendship Parade with 2,000 registered attendees and with your enthusiasm, the event ended with 18,700 spontaneous festival goers who all joined in the Awa Odori dance and parade. The ratio of total attendance for the parade was about 60% Japanese and 40% Singaporeans! It was indeed a joint collaborative celebration of our friendship from the past 50 years.

The year of "SJ50" is certainly not over yet. This month we are participating in the Singapore Writers Festival where Japan is the country of focus! In addition, please do not miss the chance to visit and be mesmerised by the exhibition of "Port Cities: Multicultural Emporiums of Asia, 1500 - 1900" at the Asian Civilizations Museum, where fascinating Japanese artefacts of over 400 years are showcased. An intriguing fact I learnt from this exhibition, Singapore and Japan were linked across the ocean even since the early modern period!

We have less than two months of SJ50 and we are ready for our continuous celebrations with further heartfelt and genuine people-to-people exchange activities! Our solid bilateral foundation is definitely set and we look forward to another 50 years, SJ100 and beyond!

See you soon!
