Director's Message

Konnichiwa!

This week, Japan celebrates her ‘Golden Week’ from 29th April to 7th May, which consists of multiple national holidays such as Showa Day, Constitution Day, Greenery Day and Children’s Day lined up in a row. It is a period of time right before summer, when many Japanese take a long break and go on vacation.

Here in Singapore, after the Labour Day holiday, we can celebrate the beauty of Japanese summer with our exhibition, Summerland Wonderland Japan 2017 ~ Railway and Airway ~ at JCC. Japan has many hidden gems and wonderlands to explore during the season of summer through railway and airway, so do catch the exhibition which has been extended till this Thursday (11th May) to find them out before it’s gone!

We were also extremely pleased to have had our first collaboration with ITE College Central and Ang Mo Kio GRC for JCC Cinema screening last month. There was an overwhelming response from the students, and I heard that Japanese pop culture is really popular among the students at ITE, ranging from anime and manga to even cosplay and Japanese music! The anime quizzes after the screening were also nailed by anime lovers! Keeping that in mind, we will continue to do our utmost in introducing more varieties of films and reaching out to different heartlands of Singapore, so please do stay tuned.

Once again, please do visit our touring architectural and city exhibition co-organised with the Japan Foundation and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) entitled 'Struggling Cities: from Japanese Urban Projects in the 1960s' at NAFA till Sunday, 14th May.

See you soon,
