Celebrating Hina Matsuri on 3 March!
Dear Friends of JCC,

Konnichiwa!

February was a fulfilling month, with an assortment of events that provided food for thought in various areas ranging from aerospace, sports and wellness to Japanese society. It was a special honour for JCC to welcome Mr Ishii Yasuo, Senior Vice President of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), to talk on JAXA’s history and current activities in space development, as well as how they cooperate and work with Singapore. Space usually feels like a distant topic, but I believe that this event allowed everyone to get closer and have a better understanding of the field.

We also had a sharing session by SMU students who visited Japan for a study trip on gendered occupations in Singapore and Japan workforces, and an International Joint Seminar for Smart Wellness City with representatives from government agencies, academic institutions, various organisations and private companies from Japan and Singapore. Both were stimulating and prompted plenty of meaningful discussions.

It was also wonderful to return to Woodlands Regional Library for the JCC Cinema x Japanese Film Festival screening. Besides enjoying the popular anime film “Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom”, the audience also had a chance to browse books on Japanese language and culture, as well as to look at a mini exhibition of iconic Japanese anime characters. It was a great opportunity to immerse in Japanese pop culture.

The month ended on a high note with the Kumamoto event that featured shochu, a traditional alcoholic beverage with a long history deeply rooted in Kumamoto Prefecture. I’m sure that this will be another attractive reason for people to visit Kumamoto!

I also had the honour of opening the “All About Spring” exhibition by our close partner Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 as the Guest-of-Honour. The exhibition is on until 9 March, so please do drop by Great World to experience a beautiful touch of spring!

To keep in touch with our upcoming events, please follow us on our Facebook and Instagram! You may also follow the Embassy of Japan in Singapore on their Facebook page as well as their X account for the latest news and updates from Japan.
