On 6 February, JCC jointly hosted with the Ship for Southeast Asia and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) International Singapore a welcome reception celebrating the homecoming of the 47th batch of SSEAYP participants. The 47th SSEAYP was the first programme to be held after the pandemic subsided. Though the participants were unable to board the Nippon Maru ship for a unique 50-day voyage with over 300 youths from ASEAN countries and Japan, they were able to visit Yamagata, Yamanashi, Aichi, Kagoshima, and Nagasaki, and interacted with youths from Japan and other ASEAN countries.

H.E. Ambassador Hiroshi Ishikawa gave his welcome remarks and noted that while the programme was shorter than usual and was a combination of online and face-to-face exchanges, the participating youths still gained invaluable experiences. It was followed by speeches from President of SSEAYP International Singapore Mr Muhammad Hafidz and Singapore National Leader of 47th SSEAYP Ms Cindy Chng, as well as the participant’s presentation sharing their unique experiences. Everyone also enjoyed mingling over Lohei, which is a highlight of the upcoming Chinese New Year.

The SSEAYP programme, which is a symbol of close ties between people of Japan and Southeast Asian countries, will resume on the Nippon Maru ship this year. We hope that participants will continue to make lifelong friendships.
