Konnichiwa!
The past month was certainly an exciting one, as we journeyed deep into lesser-known regions of Japan. Even though we are physically in Singapore, I am sure that many people could still feel the local charms of Kagawa, Kochi, Tokushima, and the westernmost Yonaguni Island in Okinawa.
Besides that, it was my great pleasure to open "The Secret Beauty of Ise Shima – Akoya Pearls & Ama Diver ~ The Grand Prix of Akoya Pearl Jewellery 2021 Singapore Edition ~” at JCC for a second time. It was wonderful to see many participants from different countries including Japan and Singapore, using Japanese cultured pearls for their unique designs. Congratulations once again to the winners, and well done to all of the participants!
Audience also had a chance to stroll through the streets of Shima during the online tour, as well as get up close and personal with Ama divers during the Q&A session. It proved to be an engaging session, given that it was a rare opportunity to interact directly with Ama divers.
For this month, do visit JCC to discover more about two rural communities in Tottori and Kamiyama facing severe depopulation and dereliction, and how the two communities are driving art projects, community revitalisation programmes, and convivial gatherings in alternative spaces. For greater insight, do also join us for the online talk!
