This February, in light of the COVID-19 situation in Singapore, we have had to postpone many of the events that we had been planning in order to prioritise the health of our Friends of JCC. We certainly miss the bustle and excitement that each event brings, but in the meantime, we have prepared some interesting articles that you can enjoy while at home!
This issue of our e-magazine features two articles written by our staff at JCC on topics related to spring! In a tropical country like Singapore, the changes between seasons may not be too obvious. In Japan however, the coming of spring in the beginning of March means we still have cold days between warmer weather, and as the days go by it gets steadily warmer. As the cold dissipates, flowers bloom and the day gets longer. Through our articles, learn about plum blossoms, known as the harbinger of spring, and about the Hina Matsuri celebrations that take place this season! We will also have a special quiz based on these articles, with special prizes to be won so read carefully!
We have also prepared some tutorials on Japanese home-cooking on our Facebook this month! Do keep a look-out if you would like to learn how to make a simple yet delicious meal to satisfy your Japanese food cravings at home.
It is heartening to know that Sakura Matsuri will be held at Gardens By The Bay from 6 to 29 March. During the festival, attractions such as tea ceremony by Omotesenke Hoseikai, Taiko Japanese Drum performances by Hibikiya, JAS MinyoClub and demonstrations by TKC (Tanglin Kendo Club) and SKC (Sigapore Kendo Club) will be taking place at the Flower Dome, so please visit the Garden to see sakura flowers and enjoy the performances! To find out the full details of the event, please check out their website here: https://www.gardensbythebay.com.sg/en/whats-on/calendar-of-events/sakura-matsuri-2020.html
