The Wonders of Fukuoka

During the seminar.
The exclusive promotion event “The Wonders of Fukuoka” was held at JCC (Japan Creative Centre) on Wednesday, 7th February 2018. The purpose of this event was to convey the various appeals of Fukuoka for its tourism, cuisine, youth and pop culture that Fukuoka Prefecture promotes through multilingual pop culture website “asianbeat”.

At the start, a tourism seminar was given by the Tourism Bureau of Fukuoka Prefecture. This was followed by a Q&A session, and a lucky draw in which lucky guests won exquisite Fukuoka products.

This was followed by a reception, where Fukuoka’s delicacies such as “Amaou Strawberry”, “Tonkotsu Ramen” and local sake, were served to guests. Mr Hiroshi Ogawa, Governor of Fukuoka, commenced the reception by welcoming guests who graced the ceremony, including those from the tourism industry. Mr Naohiro Tsutsumi, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, Embassy of Japan in Singapore, as well as Mr Akira Higuchi, Chairman of Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly, were also present to give their welcome remarks.

After that, guests had the opportunity to see Ms Taoyuka, draw a caricature of JCC Director Ms Akiko Sugita. Guests were captivated by the live demonstration, as the talented artist captured all of the distinct characteristics with great precision. Ms Taoyuka also drew caricatures of other guests during the event. Following which, Ms Mika Baba, a Tourism Ambassador for Yame city in Fukuoka Prefecture, gave minyou and shamisen performances. Her charismatic performances delighted the guests, and was even accompanied by an impromptu dance.

A Kitakyushu Manga Museum booth featuring Fukuoka’s pop culture, and beautiful crafts from Fukuoka Prefecture, such as Koshiwara Pottery and Hakataori Textiles, were also on display. At the end, guests were personally given goodie bags filled with Fukuoka’s specialty products by the Governor himself. Through this promotion event, we hope that guests have a better understanding of the charms of the Fukuoka Prefecture.
