Sudoku: Solving Puzzles the Japanese Way ~ Learning pencil puzzles with Mr Anpuku Yoshinao ~

JCC and Nikoli Co Ltd. presented Sudoku: Solving Puzzles the Japanese Way, a talk and demonstration event at Our Tampines Hub on 20 May, featuring Mr Anpuku Yoshinao, President of Nikoli.

Mr Anpuku shared his Sudoku stories to the full-house audience, explaining the origins of Sudoku, its popularity in Japan as well as its benefits as a brain teaser. He also introduced other pencil puzzles from Nikoli’s puzzle magazines, including his very own creation ‘Shikaku’. He received many questions from the audience, curious about his work and puzzle creation process.

During the demonstration segment, participants eagerly listened to Mr Anpuku’s special tips and techniques on solving Sudoku puzzles of varying difficulties, which was indeed a very practical experience for most of the participants. Aside from Sudoku, they also tried other puzzles, such as ‘Kakuro’ and ‘Akari’, with explanation and guidance from Mr Anpuku.
