Konnichiwa!

I hope our JCC E-Magazine readers had a chance to enjoy Super Japan – Japanese Festival of Arts held last month in May at the Esplanade!

We are excited to hear that a total of about 160,000 people have shown up at this 10-day festival on Japan, the first of its kind that shines its spotlight on a foreign country launched by Singapore’s state-of-the-art theatre ever since it opened its doors 14 years ago.

For more than a week with two full weekends, I am delighted to have enjoyed a number of performances with workshops and open-air concerts at the festival. It was indeed filled with many experiences allowing people to immerse themselves in both the traditional and contemporary aspects of Japan, which truly depicts the name Super Japan.

Towards the end of May, we had the opportunity to be part of the Asian Festival of Children’s Content 2016 (AFCC). As the festival describes, it not only offered Asian contents to both Singaporean and Japanese children, but also to the world in shaping and nurturing the future generations of all children.

At the festival, we are pleased to have come across two bilingual children’s books that were jointly published by Singaporean and Japanese authors, illustrators and book designers. Providing opportunities with a creative environment for our children is one of our responsibilities, and I am absolutely happy to see Japanese contents this time round, as well as the visiting of Japanese authors, illustrators and translators to Singapore.

The month of June started with the exhibition of "CREATIVE-KANTO Meets Singapore" at JCC, which is a collaboration between METI Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry and DesignSingapore Council, including Mr Jackson Tan, a renowned Singaporean designer for the iconic SG50 logo. We are all excited to see the future development and potential of the localisation of Japanese products showcased in the exhibition for the Singaporean market through this collaboration!

See you soon!
