Through the lens of two films which are featured in this year’s festival – 24 Eyes (1954), based on a novel by Sakae Tsuboi and Father of the Milky Way Railroad (2023), that explores the life of Japanese poet and children’s literature author Miyazawa Kenji, she spoke about the close relationship between literature and film adaptation, as well as interesting aspects and common problems that Japanese filmmakers face when adapting novels to films and how they have changed and evolved over the decades. There was also a spontaneous and engaging Q&A session at the end with the audience raising many in-depth and intriguing questions.
