Dear Friends of JCC,
Konnichiwa! June was a delight for the eyes and ears, as we celebrated a diverse variety of Japanese cinema and dramas with our very first Japanese Film Festival Online 2024 in Singapore. Additionally, we held a JCC Cinema screening of the animation film “Napping Princess” for the family crowd, as well as a masterclass by Professor Deborah Shamoon for the curious audience who wanted to delve deeper into the relations between Japanese literature and film adaptation, as well as its evolution in Japan over the decades. Moreover, JCC was swept away to a magical world by Ms Sawako Hyodo’s enchanting and melodious jazz tunes. A full house audience enjoyed not only standard numbers and Ms Hyodo’s own compositions but also local songs, such as “Home,” creatively rearranged in jazz style. We also had the pleasure of hosting a reception to commemorate the 55th year of establishment of the Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135. The reception also turned to be an opportunity of introducing the traditional art of Ikebana to the diplomatic community in Singapore. It was a joyous occasion, and several guests even had the chance to try their hand at Ikebana arrangements under the guidance of Ms Ayako Utamura, who also demonstrated her skills with three gorgeous Sogetsu style Ikebana creations. The first half of the year has passed by in a flash! The JCC15 celebrations will continue for the rest of the year, so please follow us on Facebook and Instagram!
