An online talk “MUJI IS, DESIGN IS” was successfully held on 16 June 2022, in conjunction with the ongoing exhibition ‘To the Forest of Verbs with “MUJI IS”’ at Japan Creative Centre (JCC). Co-organised by JCC and MUJI, and curated by BLACK, the online talk began with a presentation by Ms Kazuko Koike (Creative Director and Member of MUJI Advisory Board), who helped prepare the “MUJI IS” book archive that was published in honour of MUJI’s 40th anniversary in 2020. She shared the various topics stemming from the book, tying them to the values and emotions that have formed the MUJI brand. Next, Ms Junko Suzuki (curator for ‘To the Forest of Verbs with “MUJI IS”’ exhibition) explained the concept behind the exhibition. Nearly 200 people attended the online talk.
This was followed by an engaging panel discussion moderated by Ms Kelley Cheng (Creative Director of The Press Room), joined by Ms Kazuko Koike, Ms Junko Suzuki and local creatives Ms Wendy Chua (Co-founder of Forest & Whale) and Ms Felicia Toh (Founder of NOST). They shared their thoughts on the influence of design on the world and how we live, in line with their sustainability efforts. It was an insightful session, which revolved around the central themes of clothe, eat, and live. The event ended with a brief Q&A session.
