Konnichiwa!
After being on Stay Home Notice for two weeks, I was excited to finally be able to visit JCC for the first time. It was nice to see the space, and I look forward to familiarise myself further with the work done at JCC. Although JCC will not be able to hold any physical events in the near future, we are taking advantage of this unique situation to brainstorm and look at different ways to help Singaporeans experience Japanese culture in a creative way.
It was also nice to be able to acquaint myself with the Orchard Road area on my commute. Though there may not be many people out and about, I was still glad to appreciate the charms of Singapore’s cityscape while walking through its streets. I have also been able to try Tiger Beer! Its light, golden colour, refreshing and crisp taste, and fruity finish makes it an especially enjoyable drink to have in Singapore’s hot weather. I was initially interesting in the slogan "BORN IN SINGAPORE" on its label, but now I realise why it is a brand many locals take pride in. It will be a while yet, but I do look forward to be able to enjoy beer with my new colleagues and friends in a Singaporean pub soon. I wish to see you there and we can make a toast! KAMPAI!
Like Japan, it seems that Singapore is in the midst of its rainy season. While we commiserate together on the unfortunate wet weather, let us look forward to the clear skies that will greet us after the storm. Until we are able to meet, we encourage everyone to practice safe distancing and good hygiene habits, and we look forward to welcoming all our Friends of JCC back for more events once the situation takes a turn for the better.
Meanwhile, do follow JCC and the Embassy of Japan in Singapore on Facebook to stay connected with us through interesting posts about Japan and Japanese culture.
