A briefing session for the 2019 Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarships was held at JCC (Japan Creative Centre) on Saturday, 2 June 2018 in collaboration with the Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore (JUGAS). MEXT Scholarship is a scholarship programme offered annually by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities.

Mr Yee Jenn En, President of JUGAS, started the briefing with an opening address and some of the reasons to study in Japan. Following which, Mr Gaku Mizota, Second Secretary in-charge at the Embassy of Japan in Singapore, gave an in-depth introduction about Japan, its education system, as well as the different types of MEXT scholarships available and their requirements. Ms Han Ying Christal and Mr Choo Jun Jie, two former recipients who came back from Japan last year, were also present to share their experience and academic studies in Japan under the scholarship programme.

A Q&A sharing session by JCC and JUGAS was later conducted at the e-library, where one can enquire and know further about studying in Japan and the scholarships. There were booths and consultations setup by Waseda University, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies and International Christian University at the event.
