Konnichiwa!
Even as we slowly approach the hottest days of the year, or the "dog days of summer", we hope that we will be able to excite everyone with a bevy of new, interesting programmes in the coming month!
The exhibition "Photography as Art - Seeking Living Absence", by photographer and artist Mayumi Terada received a lot of interest when it opened in the beginning of June. The accompanying artist talk was also well-attended by artists and audiences alike, and many were rather taken with how beautifully and detailed the miniatures the artist made were. This exhibition was especially meaningful for me as Ms Terada is a personal friend of mine - it was heartening to reunite with a friend from high school and help introduce her acclaimed artworks to audiences in Singapore.
The past month also saw JCC collaborate with two new places for JCC Cinema. We had a screening of Studio Ghibli's "When Marnie Was There" at Woodlands Regional Library as well as a screening of "Robo-G" at Nanyang Polytechnic. The support we received from the enthusiastic audiences at both our film screenings was encouraging, and we look forward to bringing our JCC Cinema series to new, different spaces in Singapore, closer to you.
July is set to be a warm and busy, but very fulfilling month for JCC. Our JCC Cinema series will continue with various screenings at Temasek Polytechnic as well as JCC, and in addition to that, we will also have promotional events that will showcase Rikuzentakata and Setouchi regions of Japan. We will also welcome an exciting new exhibition at the end of the month that will feature the techniques and diversity of Manga design.
Do connect with us by becoming a Friend of JCC to stay up to date with our upcoming events and activities! You can also look for updates on our website and Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you at our JCC events soon!
