Director's Message

Happy New Year! 新年あけましておめでとうございます。

With the relaxation of regulations last year, JCC’s activities gradually gained momentum and went back on track. I first arrived in Singapore in the midst of the pandemic, so it is a welcome change to be able to see people enjoying our numerous different events now. That includes last month’s exhibition “Japan x Singapore Student Art Collaboration”. It was heartening to see many families drop by JCC to see the creative imaginations of their children. The year ended off on a meaningful note, and we are excited to continue showcasing Japan and Japanese culture in the new year too!

In January, we are proud to present an exhibition entitled “TOKYO☆Neo Duo Exhibition ~Tradition and Innovation~ An Exhibition by HIROYUKI MATSUURA ・ SHIGEKI HAYASHI and other upcoming Japanese Contemporary Artists”, in collaboration with Takashimaya. This exhibition has been in planning since 2020, and we are thrilled to finally unveil the unique artworks that encompass both tradition and innovation.

We will also organise an event to introduce the distinct culture of yukimuro, or snow aging. Film enthusiasts can also look forward to another JCC Cinema featuring everyone’s beloved Doraemon character at the heartlands. Speaking of Doraemon, if you have yet to visit The Doraemon Exhibition Singapore 2022 at National Museum of Singapore, I highly recommend doing so before it ends on 5 February! Are you all ready?

To stay informed about our upcoming events in 2023, please follow us on our Facebook and Instagram! You may also follow the Embassy of Japan in Singapore on their Facebook page for the latest news and updates from Japan.
