Happy New Year!
A decade has finally come to a close – an exciting decade that saw the establishment of JCC in 2009, SJ50 Matsuri and a series of exciting commemorative events throughout 2016 and finally the celebration of 10th Anniversary of JCC with Bunraku performance and other compelling events in 2019.
December 2019 was a fulfilling month for JCC, as JCC, Japan Foundation Asia Center and the NTT InterCommunication Center [ICC] co-organised an art and technology exhibition entitled “Open Possibilities: There is not only one neat way to imagine our futures.” Through the perspectives of Japanese and Southeast Asian artists, guests were encouraged to imagine different possibilities in their futures. This thought-provoking exhibition will travel to Japan in the beginning of 2020 – JCC is definitely proud to have been the location for its Southeast Asian stop.
JCC also organised some fun activities for families during the December holidays. In early December, Singaporean manga artist Evangeline Neo led a workshop at the Woodlands Regional Library, teaching students how to draw chibi manga portraits. It was particularly heartening to see many youths participating in this workshop. JCC also showed two films at Japan Rail Café’s Kira Kira Wonderland event as part of our JCC Cinema Series. Despite the rainy weather, we were glad to see spectators turn up to enjoy the Japanese films together.
Some exciting plans are put in the pipelines for the New Year – an exhibition featuring glass artists from Toyama City, Japan will kick off JCC’s programmes of 2020, and later in the month, our first JCC Cinema screening of the year will be held at Woodlands Regional Library. We sincerely hope that everyone will continue to take part in and enjoy the diverse range of programmes that we can offer.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Friends of JCC for their continuous support of our events. We hope to receive everyone’s enthusiastic participation and warm support in the coming year too.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the partners and friends of JCC for their strong support in the past decade and ask for your continued partnership and friendship in the next decade to come!
Once again, I would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year, and I hope to see you all soon at JCC!
