Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu! Happy New Year!
My first New Year’s Day in Singapore was indeed a memorable one. As I look back on JCC’s activities in the past year, I feel honoured to have been part of many, many events that have undoubtedly brought much excitement and joy to the local community and have spread interesting information about Japan.
Most recently, the Embassy of Japan in Singapore hosted a reception at the Shangri-La Hotel in celebration of His Majesty the Emperor’s 84th Birthday. It was heartwarming to see distinguished guests from many nations present to celebrate this joyous occasion with us. It was a highlight of the reception to have both H.E. Ambassador Kenji Shinoda, and the Guest of Honour, Minister of Finance Heng Swee Keat, as the representative of the Singapore Government, make speeches reaffirming Singapore and Japan’s strong friendship at the event. I hope that the New Year will bring us more opportunities to showcase Singapore and Japan’s close ties through our events at JCC.
JCC has already begun making preparations for our upcoming programmes in January 2018. We will soon be welcoming a new pair of artists to present an exhibition in our premises. It is our third consecutive exhibition which showcases collaboration between Japan and Singapore, and we hope that to recognise the year 2018 as the 45th Japan-ASEAN relationship as well as of the Singapore’s Chairmanship of ASEAN, we would like to feature more events that highlight cooperation and friendship between Japan, Singapore, and ASEAN in the near future.
To keep up to date with the events that we will be holding, please do become a Friend of JCC, and follow us on Facebook and our website. We hope that this year too, we will see many of you at JCC, participating in and enjoying the events we hold.
Once again, I would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year, and I hope to see you soon at JCC!
