The annual Japan Creative Centre (JCC) Advisory Committee Meeting 2017 was held at the Embassy of Japan in Singapore on 5 December 2017, under the chairmanship of His Excellency Ambassador Kenji Shinoda. It was also attended by His Excellency Ambassador-at-Large Tommy Koh and several distinguished members from both Singapore and Japan-related organisations.

Director of JCC Ms Sugita Akiko briefed about the JCC activities, including significant outreach activities which were held in community centres and clubs, educational institutions and community libraries.

Incorporating recommendations from last year’s Advisory Committee Meeting as well, 2017 saw an increase of events from tradition and pop culture to food, science and technologies, showcasing the various charms of Japan through exhibitions, talks, workshops and demonstrations. Besides that, JCC also continued to expand its networking efforts with Singapore and Japan partners.

There was also a special mention of the appreciation awards to JCC, such as Friend of Moulmein-Cairnhill Award and Certificate of Appreciation from West Coast Community Centre, in recognition of JCC's efforts.

The members have recognised and praised JCC’s efforts, results and breakthroughs for the past one year. Many suggestions for future collaborations were also presented during the meeting as well, especially with Singapore expected to chair the ASEAN Summit in 2018. In this regard, JCC will be working to bring Japan-ASEAN programmes by working with both local and Japan partnerships in the upcoming year.
