US-Japan-Singapore 50th Anniversary Friendship Screening: KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS

Director of JCC, Ms Misako Ito, teaching origami.
The Embassy of Japan in Singapore, the U.S. Embassy Singapore and Shaw Theatres teamed up to offer a free screening of the American film, Kubo and the Two Strings, a stop-motion animated movie set in Japan with a Japanese storyline. The screening which took place at Shaw Theatres Lido on 12 December 2016, was a special joint collaboration celebrating the U.S. and Japan’s 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations with Singapore.

Members from several Singapore social welfare organisations, who do not have regular opportunities to enjoy movies in the theatre, such as MINDS and AWWA+Ebabling Change, had the chance to enjoy the movie. In addition, children enjoyed free popcorn and learned how to make origami prior to the screening.

Kenji Shinoda also gave short speeches before the screening. Everyone present enjoyed the entertaining and exciting adventures of Kubo, with themes of courage and teamwork. This event celebrated the strong ties between Singapore, the U.S. and Japan, and their continued commitment to the social welfare of all three countries, and to fun and engaging intercultural activities.
