The Embassy of Japan in Singapore celebrated His Majesty Emperor Akihito’s 83rd Birthday on the 12th of December at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore. Minister for the Environment and Water Resources H.E. Masagos Zulkifli, Members of Parliament Mr Cedric Foo Chee Keng and Ms Cheng Li Hui, Brigadier-General Desmond Tan Kok Ming were among the approximately 760 distinguished guests who attended the event.

Food and beverage producers from Japan kindly offered their specialties at the reception. These included rice balls, and sake from Iwate prefecture, cheese, cheese cake and sake from Hokkaido prefecture, sake from Niigata prefecture, skewered beef and leek, rice balls, apples, persimmons and sake from Fukushima prefecture, sake, plum wine, vodka and yuzu wine from Ibaraki prefecture, draft beer from Kirin Beer, sushi and pear from Niigata city, sushi, mandarin oanges, strawberries and green tea from Shizuoka prefecture, Grace Wine from Yamanashi prefecture, citrus, tomato, strawberries and rice balls from Kumamoto prefecture, red seabream sashimi and fries from Tokuhiro suisan, soumen noodle, shochu liquor, black vinegar drink, green tea and Japanese sweets from Kagoshima prefecture. These Japanese delicacies received warm praises from the guests.
We also received continuous kind support from Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 for their Ikebana arrangements. One of which was done by Mr Bernard Tay of Sogetsu, and the other was by Mr Leonard Lim of Ikenobou.
