Konnichiwa!
As we ease into the New Year, JCC has started making plans for new programmes in the coming months! For example, this February, JCC will be hosting an exhibition by Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135. It has been some time since we have been able to have Ikebana on display at our premises, and I am excited to see the sorts of creative arrangements the members will come up with. NAKED, INC. will also be adding to this creativity, so that visitors can take photos and videos with their AR (augmented reality) camera application. Seeing both physical and digital blooming flowers in the face of adversity is also sure to give us strength and encouragement, and we hope many of you will visit this exhibition at JCC!
We have been very encouraged by the support and interest in our ongoing ‘Kizuna Story’ series. This year, we will introduce the stories of two artists that have contributed to stronger ties of friendship between Japan and Singapore through art and performance. It was very insightful to hear about their stories, so we cannot wait to share them with you in our next issue of the E-Magazine. In the meantime, our current issue features an exclusive extra interview that was done with lighting designer Ms Reiko Kasai and the founders of WOHA Architects, a Singapore-based architecture firm that has worked closely with Ms Kasai for many years. Do read on to find out more about how they have influenced and learnt from each other!
To keep with JCC and the Embassy of Japan’s activities, please do follow us on our Facebook pages. Follow us as well on our Instagram page (@japancreativecentre) for more interesting content about Japan. The latest edition of our printed e-magazine has also been released, so do swing by JCC to pick up a copy!
This year will be the first time that I will be experiencing the Lunar New Year celebrations in Singapore. Although celebrations will be toned down, I look forward to trying the various types of seasonal goodies, like pineapple tarts and bakkwa! I would like to take this opportunity to wish our Friends of JCC a Happy and Prosperous Lunar New Year!
